A fundraising appeal to support a Woosehill family that suffered a “devastating” fire has almost reached its initial target.
The fire, believed to have been the result of an electrical fault, ripped through the house in Bedfordshire Way.
In a statement, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 10:20pm on Wednesday, July 23, we received reports of a fire on Bedfordshire Way in Wokingham.
“Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service crews from Wokingham, Wokingham Road, Bracknell and Whitley Wood fire stations were sent to the scene, alongside the aerial ladder platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station, and two officers.
“Upon arrival, crews found a fire involving an e-scooter on the first floor of the property.
“Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to put out the fire.
“They were on scene for approximately three hours and 37 minutes.
“One crew from Wokingham fire station later returned to the scene for a re-inspection of the property.”
The appeal had raised £4,775 of its £5,000 target on Wednesday morning, with donations pledged from more than 140 people and organisations.
Sophia Moffat, writing about the appeal, said: “Thankfully, everyone made it out safely, but tragically, they lost everything in the fire – all their belongings, memories, and essentials.
“They were renting the home and now find themselves with absolutely nothing but the clothes they were wearing. They are currently homeless, heartbroken, and in urgent need of support.
“We’re reaching out to our wonderful community to ask for help. Let’s come together to show this family they are not alone in this.”
