The brewery behind The White Horse pub on Easthampstead Road has reacted to news that the current landlords have decided to leave the business.
Landlord Tom Mcnelly said his business, which his family have been running for more than 10 years, was suffering as a result of road works adjacent and outside his pub.
A Greene King spokesperson told Wokingham Today: “After working in partnership with the McNelly family for more than a decade, we are very sad to see them leave The White Horse.
“We have provided help and support to Tom and the family, and continue to do so through this difficult transition.
“We know the important role The White Horse plays in the local community and our focus now is on ensuring the best possible future for the pub and its customers.”
Landlord Tom McNelly recently wrote: ““Myself and my family can’t thank you all enough for the wonderful support we’ve had over the last few years, and mainly the last few months.
“You’ve all been amazing.
“It’s people like yourself that makes it hard to leave but I really do appreciate everything.”
Wokingham Today understands the landlords gave notice to surrender the tenancy from the landlords.
The pub had appeared in The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide for 2026.
It was also high in the running for Wokingham’s Best Pub, a competition organised by Wokingham, Liberal Democrats,, for which voting closed last Friday.
