Plans have been approved that will see minor changes coming to a Wokingham pub.
Officers at Wokingham borough council have approved the changes at Ye Olde Leathern Bottel on Barkham Road, which occupies a prominent position and forms an established and well recognised pub within the area.
The existing frontage arrangements, including timber huts and boundary treatments, have evolved over time, and currently present a somewhat cluttered appearance, accrding to the application.
The approved new pergola, planters, estate fencing and associated landscaping will rationalise the frontage, providing a more coherent and visually attractive setting that better reflects the character of the building and improves the relationship between the site and the public realm.
The timber pergola will replace the existing timber huts, which currently act as a seating area to the rear of the pub. The new pergola will take on the role of the huts as a covered seating area but with a less protruding structure.
The timber planters, posts, and new paving will help guide patrons to the seating areas and the entrance of the pub, reducing confusion and improving accessibility.
Officers approved the plans on April 20, 2026.
