EXCITEMENT is rising with Wokingham’s May Fayre only a few days away.
Wokingham Lions Cub members are making their final preparations for the popular event, which annually draws thousands of visitors to the borough market town.
Held in Wokingham’s town centre, the May Fayre is a fun day out for families and suitable for all ages.
This year the community event coincides with the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, with celebrations beginning on the May Bank Holiday.
All stall holders and attendees of the May Fayre are invited to join in the fun by wearing Union Jack hats, and t-shirts for a memorable day out.
Stalls will extend from Market Place, down Denmark Street and through Erftstadt Court towards Elms Field, where visitors will also find a funfair, further rides and food vendors.
An events marquee in Elms Field will keep people entertained as they enjoy a picnic, or sample food from the on site refreshments stalls, with meals, snacks, drinks and ice creams all available.
Other exciting things to see and do will include a kiddies funfair, a children’s farm and the ever-popular ferret racing.
Entertainment from choirs and singing groups, local amateur dramatics groups, children’s performance groups, street entertainment, bands, children’s entertainment, local dance groups and Morris dancers can also be enjoyed.
Around 150 stalls run by both commercial organisations and charities will offer a range of treats and goodies throughout the town centre.
The event raises funds for local charities, distributed by Wokingham Lions Club later in the year.
Wokingham Lions thank the following sponsors and supporters; Wokingham Town Council, Main Sponsor Clifton Ingram, The Wokingham Society, Allder Group, Nuffield Health, Blandy & Blandy, Melanie Curtis Accountants, Sticky Metal Art, The Crispin, Haringtons Hairdressing, The Wokingham Word, Wokingham.Today and Wokingham Local.
The May Fayre will take place on Bank Holiday, Monday May 5, from 10am until 5pm.
Denmark Street will be closed to traffic that day, from 6am until 7pm.
