READING FC interim manager Noel Hunt described his experience as taking over as first-team boss as ‘incredible’.
The former Royals striker was tasked with trying to keep the Royals in the Championship after the club parted ways with Paul Ince with five games remaining in the season.
Reading’s hopes rely on Sheffield United beating Huddersfield Town on Thursday night to give the Royals a shot at survival on the final day.
If Huddersfield are beaten on Thursday, the teams will meet on Monday in a winner takes all relegation showdown.
“It’s an incredible experience and one I probably didn’t think I’d get for another three, four or five years,” said Hunt.
“You’re working to improve as a coach and as a manager and then all of a sudden landed in the middle of it.
“It’s been interesting, but I’ve loved it and the boys have been great.
“Whatever happens, we do it together. That has always been the way here. That togetherness only makes you stronger.
“The boys have done that and have been fantastic in terms of trying to implement what we’ve been doing because it’s completely different to what they’ve been doing for the last eight months in terms of how they play and how we see the game.”
Despite being in attendance at Reading’s 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic, Hunt confirmed that he has not had any contact with club owner Mr Dai Yongge since he was appointed as interim boss.
“No, I’m sure he’s a busy man, as we are,” said Hunt when asked if has met with Mr Dai taking charge of the first-team.
“He’s left us to get on with it and I’m sure I will see him in the future some time.”
Hunt also confirmed that he will be keeping a close eye on the Huddersfield v Sheffield United game on Thursday.
He added: “The boys will be at home. I think sometimes some of them don’t like to watch it because it can be draining. So I said to them, ‘if you want to watch it, watch it, but if you don’t then that’s no problem.’
“For me, I’ll watch it, and the coaches will watch it and then go from there.”
