A SOCIETY of people keen to engage in literature, discussion, and the sharing of ideas kicks off its new season of events.
Wokingham Literary Society starts its programme for the 2026-2027 season with a presentation by Doug Irvine.
He will speak about prolific and influential 19th Century British writer and artist John Ruskin.
Ruskin’s early writing was concerned with art and architecture and he was an early champion of J.M.W. Turner and the Pre-Raphaelites.
Later his interests broadened to embrace social and political economy and his ideas influenced William Morris, Bernard Shaw and Tolstoy among others.
Doug will describe Ruskin’s life and identify some of his major books and will briefly discuss his legacy in 2026.
Wokingham Literary Society meets monthly in the Lecture Room at Wokingham Baptist Church.
Visitors are always welcome.
