An auto retail group recently brewed up a huge £18,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support after taking part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.
Eden Motor Group, with 22 dealerships across South England –including Wokingham – invited communities into their local showrooms to indulge in some delicious homemade cakes, as well as a cuppa or two, to help raise money for the worthwhile charity.
There were also a variety of other fundraising activities taking place throughout the day, such as exercise-bike marathons, leg waxing and raffle prizes donated by local businesses.
What’s more, in a bid to improve on last year’s £15,600 total, Eden matched the £9,050 of public contributions to make the 2018 grand total a record-breaking £18,100.
The contribution to Macmillan, which operates 98% of its services by donation alone, will provide a tangible benefit to those who rely on its services.
“The amount raised by Eden Motor Group could fund a Macmillan nurse for three months,” said Diana Roberts, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support.
She also noted that the amount raised equates to “a fully-kitted Macmillan Information Space including running costs, or a week’s worth of Mobile Cancer Support services (reaching and supporting, on average, 700 people).”
James Kurd, General Manager for Eden Motor Group, said: “We are overwhelmed with the support the community have shown at our coffee morning; the variety of homemade cakes on offer were as delicious as ever.
“Thank you to everyone who generously donated and helped us reach our amazing grand total – we’ve definitely got our work cut out for us next year.”
