Wokingham Lions Club is set to take over the operations of a popular music club.
The Wokingham Music Club was founded in April 2012 by Stan Hetherington with the aim was to bring live music to Wokingham.
Since then, it has grown and now has around 20 live music events per year, which take place at The Whitty Theatre or the Royal British Legion in Winnersh.
These events feature original artists, along with high quality tributes and cover bands.
Stan feels now is the time to take a step back from Wokingham Music Club and he approached Wokingham Lions Club with a view to them taking over.
Wokingham Lions Club was an obvious first choice. Stan had inaugurated The Wokingham Walk together with Wokingham Lion, Andy Slay in 2016, which then evolved and now continues under the banner of Wokingham Lions Club.
Discussions followed, and a plan has been put in place.
The official Handover will be on April 6, but no immediate changes will be apparent, as Stan has already booked all the acts for 2025.
Wokingham Lions will continue the ethos of the great music club that Stan has nurtured, and Stan will remain very involved in the booking of acts for 2026, during which Wokingham Lions will learn from his experience and expertise.
From April, the logistics of organising and managing Wokingham Music Club will be taken over by Wokingham Lions Club as part of their ongoing arrangement of activities for the benefit of the local community.
All funds raised from Wokingham Music Club events run by Wokingham Lions Club will go to help charities and good causes, mostly in the local Wokingham area.

“With our existing experience of organising many events, including Wokingham May Fayre, #WOKY Comedy Nights, #WOKY Quiz Nights, The Wokingham Walk, Wokingham Classic Motor Show and Wokingham Winter Carnival, we look forward to running Wokingham Music Club too”.
