A CARE worker has been crowned the winner of the prestigious Dementia Carer Award in the Southeast region of this year’s Great British Care Awards (GBCAs).
Kadijatu Koroma, or KK as she’s known, is a live-in carer with Bluebird Care Reading, Wokingham, Windsor, Maidenhead and Bracknell.
In her caring role, she moves into a person’s home to offer one-to-one everyday care and support.
KK was commended by the Great British Care Award (GBCA) judges for her exceptional dedication, compassion, and ability to deliver tailored care that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of people across the region.
Describing why they chose her to win the coveted prize, judges said: “Her warmth and understanding of her role shine through in every interaction.
“Her deep understanding of her clients’ experiences with dementia makes her a standout carer.
“She’s a natural teacher and trainer, with the patience and insight to support others in the field”.
GBCA awards are widely recognised as one of the most esteemed accolades in the care sector, with 21 award categories celebrating individuals who exhibit excellence in their field.
The Dementia Carer Award recognises individuals who demonstrate the specific skills needed to provide services sensitive to the needs of older people living with dementia, while promoting dignity, respect, and independence.
As a regional winner, KK will now advance to the national finals, which will take place in spring next year.
Reflecting on her win, she said: “I’m still in disbelief about winning; it’s still sinking in, but I’m ever so pleased, grateful, and excited.
“This recognition made me feel appreciated for the hard work and commitment I put into my job and the care I provide for my customers.
“This award will forever fuel my passion to work and grow more.”
The awards ceremony was an emotional and joyous occasion for KK and her colleagues.
