Arborfield Green has received a free-to-use ATM as part of LINK’s commitment to protecting access to cash across the UK. The ATM is installed within the Co Op in Arborfield Green.
The installation of the new cash machine a: Arborfield Green Co-op in Bramshill Close, comes as a welcome addition to the community, and follows a request from a local resident.
Prior to the machine going live, the community’s nearest ATM was three kilometres away and the closest Post Office is over two kilometres away.
While more people are choosing to pay for things using contactless cards or digitally, cash continues to be very important for the residents and wider community.
Many small businesses are still reliant on cash, with some opting not to have card machines due to the costs involved.
Following the request and a visit from LINK, a new free to use ATM recently opened in the Co-Op retail store.
More than 150 communities have benefited directly from LINK’s Community Request Scheme.
Any community that believes it has an issue can apply for support for free access to cash directly to LINK at: https://www.link.co.uk/consumers/request-access-to-cash/.
LINK’s head of financial inclusion, Nick Quin, said:: “We know that more people are choosing to pay for things digitally or using contactless cards.
“However, we also know that millions still rely on cash and as we saw last month, when IT systems go down, cash always works.
“We’re really pleased to confirm there is a new machine open in Arborfield Cross.”
“If any community believes it has an issue accessing cash, it can contact LINK directly or they can check our Cash Locator app or website to see where they can withdraw cash for free.”
LINK’s cash locator is at https://www.link.co.uk/consumers/locator/.
