REVELLERS in Wokingham are toasting the news that the town’s latest hostelry has announced an opening date.

The Sit & Sip Tasting Room will serve up a unique flavour at its plush new location in Peach Place.

Former Wokingham schoolboy James Mattingley confirmed the grand unveiling has been set for Friday May 3, just a few days after the Peach Place square is finally revealed to the public.

Locals and visitors got a sneak peak of Peach Place this week, when Wokingham Borough Council opened the square for one day to give people a glimpse of how the regeneration is taking shape.

Sit & Sip owner James, 38, who attended Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning and used to live in Earley, opened the first Tasting Room in Chichester last year.

James, from Henley, said: “The Peach Place open day went really well and gave people a taste of what they can expect from the regeneration.

“Now we can confirm we will open Sit & Sip on May 3. We are so excited to be opening our second branch of Sit & Sip in Wokingham, and to be a part of such a huge chapter in the town’s history.

“Sit & Sip is all about the tasting experience and offering something new. We want to add something really different to the town by bringing a taste of beers, spirits and food that has been created either locally or by smaller producers in the UK.

“We really cannot wait to welcome people to the Tasting Room. We are so excited to be opening our second branch of Sit & Sip in Wokingham, and to be a part of such a huge chapter in the town’s history.”

Visitors to Sit & Sip customers can choose from a revolving selection of drinks, with several choices from local breweries and small producers on offer at all times. These include Siren Craft Brew based in Finchampstead, and West Berkshire Brewery from Yattendon.

Sit & Sip will hold two monthly themed tasting events where visitors can find out more about the creation process behind their favourite drinks, and sample some special guest products.

There will be regular events such as Tap Takeovers from companies such as West Berkshire Brewery and Spirits Tastings and Masterclasses with Gorilla Spirits.

Sit & Sip is also inviting community groups and clubs to consider holding events and meetings at the venue when it opens.

The first Tasting Room in Chichester, West Sussex, already serves special doggy prosecco and beer to dog walking groups.

James says there is potential to cater for everyone, as the Wokingham Tasting Room features baby change facilities and could also host parent groups.

James said: “If there are any clubs that want to use the venue for their group, we’re happy to have a chat with them. We have the space and it would be great to be a part of the community in that way.”
