WOKINGHAM fell to their second league defeat of the season as they were beaten comfortably by Thame Town who recorded a four wicket victory.
The Oaks won the toss and elected to bat first. But they made a poor start to the innings as George Horsley was run out for a golden duck and his opening partner Stuart Parsons only managed to total seven runs from 26 balls before he was caught out from the bowling of Faisal Ali.
Thame Town maintained their strong bowling and fielding as Danny Housego was dismissed for just one run before the bowling of Faisal Ali removed wicket keeper Sukhmeeet Kang (5) and James Bird (9).
Wokingham gained some reprieve to their innings as the partnership of Simon Myles (38) and Stuart Hayter (43) put some much needed runs on the board as they halted the early collapse of the first five wickets.
Lewis Sharp also scored a valuable 22 runs for his side before Thame eventually bowled Wokingham all out for a modest total of 167 after 48.2 overs.
Thame’s opening pair of Michael Beard (41) and Oliver Ebsworth-Burland (32) put the hosts into a strong position to chase down the 167 total set by Wokingham.
The bowling of Paul Dewick, caught Simon Myles, finally made the breakthrough to give the visitors hope. Wokingham then gained two wickets in quick succession to make the score 97-3 as Suhkmeet Khan caught Thame captain Michael Beard, bowled by Jacob Clarke.
But wicket keeper Callum Russell proved too tricky for Wokingham to dismiss as he scored 31 not out and alongside his batting partner Devane Warner, Thame surpassed the target set by Wokingham with four wickets to spare after just 33.1 overs.
The result leaves Wokingham second bottom of the league table having only won one of their three matches so far in the season.
