A partial closure order has been secured on a property in Reading following concerns about drug dealing and drug use.
The Reading South Neighbourhood Policing Team took action after residents raised concerns about activity at an address on Heroes Walk, in Whitley Wood.
Thames Valley Police said a vulnerable resident living at the property had become a victim of so-called ‘cuckooing’.
The term refers to criminals taking over the home of a vulnerable person to use it for illegal activity, such as dealing drugs.
Police said anti-social behaviour linked to the property had caused “considerable disruption and concern” among neighbouring residents.
The partial closure order will remain in place for three months.
The force said the action sent a clear message that criminal activity and anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated.
Alongside the enforcement action, police said they were working with partner agencies to safeguard and support the vulnerable tenant and ensure they received appropriate help.
Officers thanked residents for continuing to report concerns, saying information from the community had helped them take action.
