Reading FC owner Rob Couhig has refused to rule out Charlie Savage leaving the club before the summer transfer window closes.
Savage continues to attract interest from Championship clubs, with the midfielder’s future remaining one of the key transfer questions surrounding the Royals.
The 23-year-old has entered the final year of his Reading contract and has been linked with a number of Championship sides after establishing himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Reading rejected approaches for Savage during the January transfer window, while interest has continued into the summer.
Championship clubs including Cardiff City and Lincoln City have previously been reported as potential suitors, with Derby County also credited with an interest.
With the transfer window still open, there remains a possibility that Reading could receive an offer for the Wales international before the deadline.
Asked about Savage’s future, however, Couhig did not directly address whether the midfielder would remain at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Instead, the Reading owner offered a brief response:
“Charlie will have a good future in football.”
The comment stops short of confirming that Savage will remain with Reading beyond the summer window.
Savage joined the Royals from Manchester United in 2023 on a four-year deal and has developed into a key figure in the side.
Reading are also faced with the financial consideration of potentially losing the midfielder for nothing when his contract expires in 2027.
The club could therefore have to weigh up the benefit of keeping one of their most influential players against the prospect of accepting a transfer fee while there is still time to reinvest the money in the squad. Manchester United also retain a high sell-on clause for the player.
