Arts4Wokingham’s proposed landmark sculpture, The Arc, received a welcome boost this week.
The project is relying on grants, sponsorship and donations to support the siting of a spectacular stainless steel work designed by internationally acclaimed artist, Nicola Anthony, outside Wokingham’s new Carnival Hub.
Following a VIP preview last Thursday, the sale of dozens of small original postcard artworks, all designed and donated by a range of local artists and supporters, were displayed and available to buy in Wokingham library.
Local artist and Arts4Wokingham committee member, Jane Bonney, who was the driving force behind the postcard fundraising initiative, was delighted with the response.
She said: “Artists and local enthusiasts donated an extraordinary range of creative cards.
“Quite apart from watercolours, acrylics and digital pieces, we even had some fabric and stained glass offerings.
“We are indebted to all those who so selflessly contributed to this pop-up art sale.’
Among those attending and endorsing the proposal to secure Wokingham’s place defining sculpture were both the town mayor and deputy borough mayors.
The event raised close to £1,000, with more than 50 people securing a much cherished one-off work of art.
Fundraising is critical to the success of the project, and there’s a proposal to make sure that significant supporters can have their contribution acknowledged and their names displayed when the The Arc is finally in situ.
