RESIDENTS and team members at a Bracknell care home are celebrating after a bird box built by one of their community became home to a nest full of baby birds.
Maggie Uttley joined fellow Farley Gardens Care Home residents on a visit to the Eco Skills Learning Centre in Arborfield.
There the group took part in a hands-on bird box building workshop using sustainable and reclaimed materials.
The activity proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding, but nobody predicted how successful Maggie’s creation would become.
Recently, staff were delighted to discover that Maggie’s bird box had been chosen by nesting birds and was now housing a thriving brood of chicks.
A photograph of the nest revealed a remarkable number of young birds safely tucked inside the handmade box.
Maggie was thrilled to hear the news.
“It is lovely to know that something I made has helped provide a home for a family of birds,” she said.
“I never imagined it would be so popular.
“Seeing all those baby birds makes me feel very proud.”
General Manager Simona Cioinac said: “When our residents took part in the workshop, they were helping to support local wildlife while enjoying a meaningful community activity.
“To see Maggie’s bird box become home to so many baby birds is absolutely wonderful and has brought a great deal of joy to everyone at Farley Gardens.
“It is a fantastic example of how activities like these can have a lasting impact, not only for our residents but for the wider environment as well.”
The success story has highlighted the value of connecting residents with nature and the local community, while demonstrating how even a simple project can make a real difference to local wildlife.
