On day three of the Paralympics, Reading boccia ace Will Arnott claimed a win in the last match of the day over Karabo Morapedi of South Africa.
Arnott lost his opening match to team-mate Patrick Wilson earlier this week, but Friday’s 7-1 victory gives him a chance to escape the pool into the knock-out rounds:
Arnott said: “That was definitely a better result than yesterday and it means my job’s quite simple tomorrow. I need to beat Dan Michel of Australia and then I’m through to the next round and that’s the target.
“I felt I grew into the game, probably similar to yesterday, I’ll have to start quicker tomorrow if I want to come away with the right result. But I’ve given myself the right opportunity, I just need to do it now.”
Boccia is a paralympic sport, first introduced in 1984, which sees athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto a court with the aim of getting the ball as close as possible to the ‘jack’.
