VISITORS to a Wokingham park at the weekend were able to enjoy free outdoor theatre.
Shakespeare’s love story, Romeo and Juliet was performed in Elms Field by Wokingham based Bart Lee Theatre company.
The Wokingham Town Council event had been planned for earlier in the month, but was postponed due to bad weather.
Audience members brought picnic blankets and camping chairs, and were able to enjoy an adapted version of Shakespeare’s story, filled with excitement, humour, sword fighting, romance and audience participation.

Wokingham Town Councillor Barrie Callender said: “It was so well done.
“This was the first Shakespeare play I had seen, and I loved it.
“The sword fighting was really exciting, and the actors played lots of characters between them.”

Around 70 people came to the start of the performance, with more having joined by the end.
“Despite the rain, only one person left – and then they came back,” added Cllr Callender.
“People really enjoyed it and afterwards the actors stayed on to chat with the audience.
“I think this sort of event is really needed, and I would like to arrange more performances like it.”
