A LARGE encampment of travellers has pitched up on a new country park being built in Emmbrook.
On Friday, a host of caravans arrived on the area, known as a SANG, in Warren House Road. There are at least 40, if not more vans parked on the site.
It is believed that the travellers are attending a funeral on Wednesday, but this is unconfirmed.
The land they have set up camp in is part of Crest Nicholson’s development at Kentwood Farm and when completed will provide an area for walking and leisure activities as well as forming a buffer between the estate and the A329m.
Thames Valley Police said in a tweet that they are “aware of the unauthorised encampment near to Warren House Road. We are liaising with the landowners & conducting regular patrols”.

Because the land is currently owned by Crest Nicholson, Wokingham Borough Council is unable to do anything.
A council spokesperson said: “The land is privately owned so we cannot take action. It is up to the landowner to do this.”
Crest Nicholson is working to move the travellers on from the land.
A Crest Nicholson spokesperson said: “We are aware of an illegal encampment at Kentwood Meadows on Warren House Road in Wokingham.
“We are working closely with Thames Valley Police and Wokingham Borough Council to resolve this issue immediately”.
