Legendary television personality Johnny Ball injected fun into maths lessons at a Wokingham school to mark NSPCC Numbers Day.
The 86-year-old shot to fame in the 70s and 80s as a children’s television presenter, most famously for his ‘Think of a Number’ programme.
He had lost none of his energy and enthusiasm when he visited Reddam School in Bearwood earlier this month for the event that saw schools across Berkshire and beyond taking part in a range of maths related activities and games on Number Day’s 25th anniversary,
Johnny, who is also a former stand-up comedian and Butlins red coat, spoke to pupils about the importance of maths in a fun and interactive way.
Johnny told Wokingham Today: “I am so thrilled to be involved with the NSPCC’s Number Day again this year.”
Asked about the importance of having fun with maths, he said: ““You’ve got to look at a teacher and see they’re enjoying themselves.
“The pupils will want to learn if they’re having fun. Once you’re relaxed with the subject, you can do it.”
Olivia Goff, NSPCC Schools coordinator for Berkshire, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Number Day, and we are very grateful to Johnny for helping us mark this fantastic milestone.
