This year’s candidates

Jim Frewin, Independent
Jim has lived in the area all of his life and been an active member of the Shinfield community. This includes running numerous charity events including fetes on the Village green.
Both he and his family have represented Shinfield in both football and cricket and Jim currently does a range of volunteer roles within the community.
When dealing with WBC and our current Councillors over the Eastern Relief Road he became acutely aware of how residents were being treated and that care for our community was being put below party politics.
He strongly believes this is not right and that those who stand for council should be there to serve the community they represent over and above politics and political careers. He is standing as an independent candidate to get WBC back to caring and serving Shinfield.

Chris Johnson, Liberal Democrats
Chris lives in Three Mile Cross. Having spent 25 years in the RAF, he is now a telecoms consultant.
He wants to address the impacts of major development in Shinfield South, and is concerned about the failures to address the needs of the local communities.
A member of his local Neighbourhood Watch, he wants to tackle growing anti-social behaviour in the area.

Marcus McDowell, Labour
Marcus grew up in locally and has lived in Three Mile Cross for the last four years.
He works as a developer in the IT sector and has one child, who attends school in Wokingham.
Marcus and the Shinfield Labour team have been campaigning to reduce speed limits from 40 mph to 30 mph.
Marcus and the team have spoken to hundreds of residents recently but no one has mentioned any councillor showing any interest on this problem.
“We need to make the roads safe now, not after an accident,” said Marcus.

Barrie Patman, Conservatives
Barrie has been an experienced Borough Councillor for Shinfield South for many years he has fulfilled many roles on the Council as an Executive member, Mayor and committee Chairman.
He has always had the interests of Shinfield at heart, was a School Governor at Ryeish Green and has been involved Nationally in improving Community safety.
He is very concerned to ensure development is controlled in Shinfield. He will work on your behalf using his experience to get the best result.
His Wife who was very well known in Shinfield recently died and he has pledged to continue as your Borough Councillor in her memory.
