AT first glance, Berkshire’s green fields do not have much in common with the Hollywood hills.
But this green and pleasant land is about to star in a film that could well be the next big screen blockbuster.
The team behind Unbelievers describe it as a cross between Arnold Schwarzenegger meets C.S.Lewis.
The first episode screens this week – six years after local men, Matt Colclough and Wayne Ashcroft came up with the idea.
Matt, who works in a DIY store when not directing behind the camera, said the whole project cost £40,000 to make.
“The story revolves around a guy called Harry who is the CEO of a huge company who then becomes a Christian,” he explains.
“At first, his colleagues don’t mind but they notice a change in their boss and are worried it will affects their profits.
“That’s when they bring in a guy called Dylan who is similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in the film Terminator.
“They want him to kill Harry before he converts.
“The rest of the series is like the book C.S. Lewis wrote called The Screwtape Letters where an older devil has a dialogue with a younger one.”
The pilot episode will be shown this Friday on YouTube and will run over the next five weeks.
Much of it was filmed around Berkshire as well as London using professional actors.
Andrew McDonald, who plays Harry in the show, appeared in the stage production of Harry Potter in London’s West End.
“We wanted to make a sort of modern parable but not one that Bible bashes people,” added Matt.
“It raises some important questions about ethics and morals. Wayne has been the producer and a third friend, Steven Hunt from Reading, joined the team.”
Earley-based musician Steven has helped with turning the team’s vision into a reality.
Matt said: “It’s been a long time getting to the final stage but an enjoyable one and we hope the public like the end result.”
Matt has been in talks with the BBC and Channel 4 in the hope of having Unbelievers screened on national television.
He said: “It is hard getting to the people we need to get to but we are still trying. I think our idea is new and unique.”
