A man has been jailed for more than three years after stalking and repeatedly abusing a woman in her 30s in Berkshire.
Kes Caves, 32, of Queens Way, Kintbury, near Hungerford, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison at Reading Crown Court.
The offences took place in and around Newbury between June 2023 and February 2026.
Caves pleaded guilty on 23 July to two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour, as well as one count each of actual bodily harm and stalking involving fear of violence.
Thames Valley Police said Caves monitored the victim’s whereabouts and who she associated with, made unfounded accusations about her interactions with other people and controlled what clothing she was allowed to wear.
He also assaulted her on multiple occasions, including headbutting and biting her.
On 27 December 2025, Caves bit the woman’s shoulder, causing actual bodily harm, before attempting to assault her with a hammer.
He also prevented her from leaving the property, police said.
Between 26 December 2025 and 20 February 2026, Caves carried out a course of conduct which amounted to stalking.
This included making social media posts, sending unwanted gifts and money, contacting the victim’s friends and family, and attending places where he knew or believed she would be.
Caves was arrested on 27 December and re-arrested on 20 February. He was charged on 20 February.
Detective Constable Poppy Bulger, of Thames Valley Police’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, thanked the victim for her “bravery” in coming forward and supporting the case.
She said Caves’ behaviour was “persistent, threatening and abusive”, causing the victim fear and distress over a sustained period.
“Domestic abuse can have a devastating and lasting impact on victims, affecting their safety, confidence, mental health and ability to move forward,” she said.
“Violence against women and girls remains a priority for Thames Valley Police.”
She added that the force was committed to tackling such offences, supporting victims and bringing offenders to justice.
