READING FC boss Ruben Selles admitted that he feels the club are ‘not ready’ despite being only a week away from the start of the new season.
The Royals were once again placed under an embargo from the EFL for failing to pay HMRC which means they can only sign free agents and loans and are under a strict wage cap.
“We will wait for the club to solve the problems off the pitch and we will solve the problems on the pitch,” said Selles.
“We are not ready. We need more support, more players. Right now, we are not ready.
“I have had contact with him (Dai Yongge). They told me it is going to be paid and we’re waiting for that to be done.”
The Royals boss also admitted that there is a possibility that the club’s new signings may not be registered with the league due to the embargo.
He continued: “Yes it’s a possibility. Hopefully we can do it, hopefully some of the new players and other players that we want to get in the team. First we have to solve our problems.
“We have to concentrate on the things we have and not the things out of our control. I expected us to be in a different place in this time of pre-season.
Selles confirmed that new signing Lewis Wing is struggling with fitness issues but hopes he can be ready for next weekend, while Sam Smith is out with a quad injury and will have a scan on Monday to assess the damage.
“It’s difficult when you sign free agents and they haven’t been training or playing for two months.
“We need to be careful with the exposure for them in the first few weeks because you can lose a player for a long period if you do that.”
