An innocent mistake involving coach drivers that took a wrong turn has been revealed as the reason for a social media furore that erupted last week.
Reports were published online and widely shared in neighbourhood groups which suggested that people were seen arriving in coaches in the entrance to the former Best Western Moat House hotel in Sindlesham that is currently being used to house asylum seekers.
That news coincided with national media reports that asylum seekers were being moved from a hotel in Essex.
A spokesperson for Wokingham borough council told Wokingham Today: “This [new people arriving] is not true.
“It was some school coaches that accidently turned the wrong way and turned around in the hotel car park.
“It was just social media speculation.”
