A MAN convicted of a number of bike thefts in Wokingham has been sentenced in Reading.
Following investigation by Thames Valley Police, Ashley Reed-Jones, 26, of Ashridge Road, Wokingham, was arrested on Monday, July 3.
He was sentenced the following day, having pleaded guilty to three counts of theft of a pedal cycle, at Reading Magistrates Court.
He received a sentence of 18 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
Reed-Jones stole three pedal cycles in Wokingham during June.
The bikes’ combined value, two of which belonged to teenage boys, amounted to £3,400.
One bicycle was taken from outside a school, another from beside a shop.
Sergeant Paul Bentley of Wokingham South Neighbourhood policing team, said: “The Neighbourhood team is continuing its proactive patrols in hotspot areas in order to combat an increase in theft of bicycles in recent months.
“We will also continue to run events providing crime prevention advice and also bike marking.
“Additionally we will continue to work with our partners to trace offenders committing these crimes and bring them before the courts to face justice.”
