Wokingham Today has reached out to all political parties with candidates standing in tomorrow’s local elections. Every party has been offered the opportunity to provide a manifesto-style column to appeal to voters. Today, it’s the turn of the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition party, who field two candidates in the wards of Norreys, and Spencers Wood and Swallowfield.
“In February Socialist party members and community campaigners attended Reading Borough Council’s budget meeting to speak in favour of a much needed no cuts people’s budgets to restore services
Council leader Liz Terry declared that apparently austerity is over clearly no one asked wedding residents who continued to be squeezed by ever escalating prices in a cost of living crisis that can’t be solved by capitalist politicians like Starmer, who defended the boss’s interests
As expected, all labour councillors voted for the budget that includes a 4.99% rise in council tax while our services have already been cut after 16 years of austerity to put this into context £55.5 million of savings were made by the labour council between 2017 and 2022
People in Wokingham have faced similar cuts at the hands of the Liberal Democrats
Following the dismissal of our demand for a people’s budget for Reading by the Labour council, Trade Unionists and Socialists are prepared to make a stand against cuts and austerity by standing as part of the trade unionist and socialist coalition in the elections.
We believe in giving people the choice to vote against cuts, in Reading and Wokingham.
If you are interested in building a fightback vote to USC against cuts on May 7, consider joining the Socialist party.
