A major road in Wokingham’s town centre has been closed to traffic this morning after a fault with a railway crossing.
Trains have also been delayed for up to 10 minutes and disruption is expected until 9am.
Cars and other vehicles are being diverted along Wellington Road and along Carnival Pool to get to the Finchampstead Road and along Molly Millars Lane.

It is not yet known how long it will take for the barriers to be re-opened, but we understand that a team from Network Rail’s engineering department are on their way.
The affected barrier is close to the footbridge next to Station Approach.
As well as delays to trains, Reading Buses are reporting that its Lions and Leopard routes are also being affected:

In a message on South Western Railway’s website, they said: “Our control centre is aware of a problem with a level crossing between Wokingham and Bracknell. The issue is with one of the barriers which prevents vehicles and pedestrians from using the crossing when a train is about to pass over it.
“As a result, trains have to proceed at caution over the level crossing at caution when it is safe to do so. This is causing delays of up to 10 minutes per train.
“Network Rail, who own and maintain the railway infrastructure, have been advised of this issue and their engineers are en-route to rectify the problem with the level crossing.
“We may need to make short-notice changes to trains in order to manage disruption. We may need to change where your train stops or cancel it at short notice.”
