A convenience store and the only post office in Woodley town centre has been earmarked for closure, the company that runs the shop has confirmed.

There has been a post office in Crockhamwell Road since the early 1960s, providing postal services for residents ever since. The store that the post office is contained in became Morrisons Daily in November 2024. But a spokesperson has confirmed the store is in a proposed list of Morrisons Daily closures.

If this decision goes ahead, the store will close on Sunday, July 12, with post office services likely to cease by the end of this month.

The store has one large counter for the convenience items and postal services.

Shoppers can buy a range of snacks, sweets, cold drinks and alcohol at the store.

Resident Charlie Langdale was unaware of the closure of the store, but had heard the post office is set to close.

After being told about the potential closure, he said: “If you don’t live near Woodley town centre, it’s a bit of a journey, but oh well.

“I just heard that it was just the post office that was closing.

“I know there’s a shop with a post office down Drovers Way, and the other one is more over north Woodley in Brecon Road.

“Never mind, we’ve mounted bigger obstacles and got over it, it’s just convenient here, isn’t it?”

Neighbours are concerned about the loss of the post office, as people can pay bills and do banking, such as deposits and withdrawals.

The store is currently open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, with closure at 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The store was run as a McColls for several years, until the chain collapsed into administration.

Morrisons brought the company out of administration in May 2022 and rebranded it Morrisons Daily.

However, the supermarket giant has announced the closure of around 100 Morrisons Daily stores in the coming months.

There are currently post offices at The Parade in Brecon Road and Wheelers Green at the end of Drovers Way.
