Wokingham Borough libraries provide resources and services to inspire and support learning and knowledge for all.
Wokingham Libraries offers activities to help primary school aged children keep reading through the summer holidays as part of the national Summer Reading Challenge.
Volunteers are needed to encourage children to complete the Summer Reading Challenge by talking about books and promoting the SRC website and activities.
They will help with children’s craft activities and displays in Wokingham, Woodley and Lower Earley libraries during the school holidays. Volunteers must be enthusiastic about reading, enjoy talking to and helping children and families, interested in craft activities, reliable and able to make a regular commitment and be able to arrange own transport to and from the library.
This volunteering opportunity is for volunteers aged 16 to 24 only.
Sue Ryder provides hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life changing diagnosis. At the Wokingham Day Hospice, they provide specialist palliative care services to patients living at home.
The role of a volunteer driver here at Sue Ryder is to transfer patients in and out of The Wokingham Day hospice. Hospice Days are Tuesday Wednesday and Friday.
Occasionally Thursdays are required for outpatient appointments. Any or all days are currently available. Volunteers will all be DBS checked and have a clean driving licence.
Remap volunteers are practical engineers with the inventive skills to make bespoke aids and adaptations for the disabled that are not commercially available, to help them in their personal care, hobbies, mobility, work, sport etc.
Remap has been operating nationally since 1965 and consists of about 70 groups and 900 volunteers.
When assigned a job, the volunteer will visit the client (with medical professional if appropriate) to agree what is required, go home, design and make it, and then hand it over to the client. You will need a car and a workshop (or access to one).
Depending on complexity, several visits may be required. Jobs are assigned as they are received from clients to whichever volunteer is available, has the right skills and lives in the neighbourhood (to minimise travel).
Hours are determined by the volunteer around their own and the client’s availability, and so can be arranged around a full-time job.
