‘We cannot accept that performance’ Ruben Selles reflects on Reading FC’s Port Vale defeat

READING FC manager Ruben Selles believes a ‘poor’ second-half performance cost his team defeat at Port Vale.

The Royals have now lost back-to-back games to open the League One season and extend their winless run in the league to 15 matches.

“I don’t think it was poor (the whole game). It was a poor second half,” said Selles.

“First-half we controlled the game. Second-half we didn’t.

“We conceded a goal that should never happen. A series of mistakes and then we never came back.

“Unfortunately today we couldn’t put a good performance together.”

Selles is now focused on regrouping his team ahead of a home clash with Stevenage on Tuesday night as the team looks to get their first points of the season on the board.

Selles continued: “I have the players that are fit and ready to play and that’s what we did today. Today we didn’t show what we needed to do.

“There are always regrets when you lose the game but we need to analyse the game deeper to see what I need to do for the team.

“We cannot accept that performance for the big part of the second half.

“We were not good enough. We need to work hard to make them (the fans) proud. Today was not acceptable and we will work hard to make them better.

“I understand the fans are disappointed but we will respect every single club in League One. We have to fight to win football matches.

“We will try to fix it for Tuesday and be there to win football matches.

“We have another game on Tuesday and we will analyse to be better in the next game.”
