A WOODLEY church event is being held to help raise funds for a new roof.
St John Bosco Roman Catholic Church in Woodley is holding a sponsored walk to help it repair its roof, which is in desperate need of an upgrade.
The church has been serving Woodley and Earley Catholics since it was constructed in 1970, but recently the poor state of its roof has become a matter of grave concern, and repair is now of the utmost importance, say church leaders.
The target for phase one fund of the church’s repair plan is to raise £250,000.
Of that, £97,000 has already been achieved, but with some way still to go, the church is holding a sponsored walk in the adjacent playing field at St Dominic Savio School.
St John Bosco is keen to encourage as many people as possible to become involved, with walkers of all ages welcome.
Circuit lengths will be organised into age-specific categories.
The event will take place in the adjacent playing field of St Dominic Savio Catholic Primary School, Woodley, after the church service at St John Bosco, on Sunday, June 14.
Walkers will gather from 11.30am, with the walk starting at noon.
Donations are gratefully received from walkers as well as those not taking part in the event.
