Thames Valley police and crime commissioner Matthew Barber was in Finchamstead last week to see for himself the issues around speeding vehicles on a section of Nine Mile Ride.
He was joined by Wokingham borough councillors Charles and Rebecca Margetts, representing the Finchampstead North and Finchampstead South wards.
Charles told Wokingham Today: “The road is currently a 30 mph limit, and the council had previously placed a purple section in the middle of the road in an attempt to slow traffic.”
He added that a speed watch programme, organised by Finchampstead Parish Council, noted that at least 25% of drivers were exceeding the speed limit on the road heading towards Bohunt School.”
He added the commissioner indicated he would look to have more patrols in the area to monitor the situation.
Matthew Barber told Wokingham Today: “Speeding remains a concern for many residents in the Thames Valley, and councillors have particularly raised issues on Nine Mile Ride.
“Through my office, I will continue to support Community Speedwatch, and have raised the issues with the local area superintendent.
“We are currently reviewing funding for road safety schemes, and I hope that we can look to introduce average speed cameras in some areas of the Thames Valley in the future.”
