CHILDREN from 15 borough schools and one Beaver pack delivered their homemade Christmas decorations to Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Comber.
The Dressing of The Christmas Tree is an annual event that celebrates the creativity of the schools’ youngsters, and gives colour and interest to the town’s Christmas Tree beside Wokingham Town Hall.
The mayor, dressed in his finest winter crimson, with the help of compere and chair of the Arts and Culture Committee Cllr Barrie Callender, greeted the children and accepted their decorations on behalf of the town.
School by school, children took to the stage from: Chiltern Way Academy, High Close, (Foundry College pupils were unable to attend) Walter Infants, Keep Hatch Primary, Evendons Primary, The Hawthorns, Wescott Infants, Westende Junior, St Teresa’s Catholic Academy, All Saints CofE Primary, St Paul’s CofE Junior, The Holt – with special guests First Winnersh Beavers.
The mayor thanked all the children for their creativity, their teachers and staff, and their families and friends, many of whom had turned out to cheer the students on.
He also thanked St Sebastian Brass Band for playing rousing carols and Christmas songs, and community champions of Tesco Wokingham and Morrisons for supporting the event.
First Winnersh Scouts provided drinks and mince pies.
“Every ornament tells a story of creativity, hard work, and the joy of the Christmas season,” said the mayor.
“Over the next few days, we’ll hang these on the town tree, adding a splash of colour for the whole town to enjoy.”
