A new bench donated by Wokingham company Balfour Beatty has been installed as part of a community garden project in Emmbrook.
The community garden-which aims to deliver a new seven-hectare Country Park incorporating 2,500 new trees, four new ponds and wildflower meadows- is the vision of Emmbrook Residents Association (ERA).
Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham in Bloom and Emmbrook Infant and Junior Schools are also among the organisations that transformed the vision into a reality and are listed on the bench’s silver plaque.
And although the current weather isn’t ideal for bench sitting, the community can look forward to enjoying the family-friendly community garden during the warmer months.
Project Director of Wokingham Major Highways Project, Andy Bradshaw said: “This bench is a token of our appreciation to the local community.
“We strive to build trust, confidence and mutual understanding with the public and aim to do our best to minimise disruption.
“We are grateful to everyone in Emmbrook and in wider North Wokingham who have supported us so far.”
ERA Chairman, Paul Gallagher added: “We are delighted to see the bench installed.
“This area is a natural meeting place at the focal point of our village and we have been working with Wokingham Borough Council and Balfour Beatty for some time to bring this about.
“Together with the flower beds we had put in last year we feel this has enhanced the area to everyone’s benefit.”
Emmbrook ward falls within Wokingham Borough Council’s west of Old Forest Road project, which is being delivered by Balfour Beatty under the SCAPE Framework. Once completed the West of Old Forest Road section of the NWDR will reduce traffic through the town centre, provide access to new housing developments and minimise the impact of increased traffic on existing roads.
