A LOWER EARLEY residential home, had some hatty fun celebrating Cinco d Mayo.
Austen House staff and residents were marking a festival which takes place in Mexico each year to celebrate freedom and liberty.
It remembers when, in 1862 President Benito Juarez sent troops to face the invading French army, who were then marching towards Mexico City.
The day is celebrated by Mexicans with parades, battle re-enactments, fireworks and parties.
Residents and family members watched videos of parades and celebrations in Mexico, travelled virtually to different historic sites in Mexico, and had a Mexican quiz.

They also enjoyed a Mexican party with mariachi music and a buffet of traditional food and drink.
Simona Cioinac, Senior General Manager at Austen House, said: “We celebrate all cultures and religions, and we try to mark as many cultural events as possible.
“Cinco de Mayo is a fantastic celebration and a great excuse for a party.
“We all had so much fun decorating the home with Mexican flags and dancing to the Mariachi music.”

Maurice, a resident, said: “It is so wonderful to be able to mark occasions like this and to remember the history behind the date.
“I really enjoyed watching the celebrations in Mexico and the Mexican food was absolutely delicious.”
