The Wokingham Paper is delighted to team up with new Bracknell Bees head coach Doug Sheppard for an exclusive weekly column.
Featured in the paper every Thursday, Sheppard gives his latest views on Bracknell’s season on and off the ice in ‘Beehind The Bench’.
With just one game last weekend, our home fixture against Swindon Wildcats took on added importance. Since the season started, we’ve been unbeaten at home. We wanted to continue this run and secure two more League points.
Our visitors have also been successful on home ice, but less so on the road. So the fans knew they could look forward to a closely fought game.
We equalised late in the third period to take the game into overtime. Unfortunately we took a penalty early. Swindon took advantage of having an extra man on the ice and scored the winning goal.
Congratulations to our young net minder, Adam Goss, on being chosen as Man of the Match.
It had been an exciting evening of hockey and many of our fans were pleased that we had taken a single point.
I was disappointed not to have won.
We’ll be working hard in training this week to make sure we get back to winning ways when we welcome local rivals, Basingstoke Bison, next Sunday.
We’re delighted that so many first-time hockey players have joined our Hockey Academy. We’re building on the success of our Schools Programme by offering this opportunity to complete beginners to get into the sport.
Of course, having a winning Senior team is important, but so is building a love of the sport among all age groups in Bracknell.
