BUSY bees will be welcomed at The Lexicon in half term as it holds a series of special events to entertain youngsters.
Bee Aware Week will run from Saturday, May 27, through to Sunday, June 4.
It includes a free-to-enter bee trail, which invites youngsters to search for bee and flower facts that will be hidden around the Bracknell town centre, with prizes on offer for the winners.
Outdoor nature and garden specialists Little Muddy Boots will run craft and storytelling sessions for under eights. They will have the chance to make a mini-bee hotel and seed bee bombs. The sessions run between Monday, May 29, and Friday, June 2, and places cost £4.
There will be storytelling sessions with Jenny Bailey, author of Phoebe the Bee, on Wednesday, May 31, and Friday, June 2. These will be held at Fenwick, Waterstones and at Bracknell Library at 11am, noon, 2pm, and 3pm. Each session lasts 20 minutes and will include a complimentary colouring sheet from Phoebe the Bee book, as well as a Lexicon notebook for each child.
On Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, Sow Grow Sounds from CBBC’s Blue Peter will be bringing together the sowing of wildflower seeds, education, music, fun and games in Union Square (opposite Boots) from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 3 June and 11am to 5pm on Sunday 4 June.
This free activity is suitable for all the family.
Sue Boor, head of marketing at The Lexicon, said: “Bees and other pollinators are so important to us all. Without them we wouldn’t have forests, wildflowers, fruit trees and many of our food crops.
“With forest and green open spaces making up more than 40% of Bracknell borough’s landscape, protecting and understanding more about bees, is even more relevant to our local community.
“We hope that our fun and educational Bee Aware Week will inspire people to plant a few extra seeds this year to help our bees.”
