Residents in Binfield have been urged to remain vigilant after reports of individuals knocking loudly on doors – and in some cases kicking them – before running away.
The behaviour, which has been reported across parts of the village, has prompted a community safety warning from Thames Valley Police.
Officers said that while the incidents may be perceived by some as “harmless fun”, they can have a significant impact on residents, particularly elderly people, vulnerable individuals, those living alone, and families with young children.
Police warned that sudden loud banging or aggressive knocking can cause fear, anxiety and distress, leaving people feeling unsafe in their own homes.
In a community message, Thames Valley Police urged parents and guardians to speak to children about the consequences of this type of behaviour, stressing that what may seem like a joke can be frightening for others.
Officers are also asking residents to report any further incidents, and to share CCTV or doorbell footage that may help identify those responsible.
Reports can be made online or by calling 101 for non-emergency matters. Police also reminded the public to dial 999 if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to life or property.
Thames Valley Police said they are working with the community to ensure Binfield remains a safe and respectful place for residents.
