CHILDREN with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions will benefit from a Tesco store manager’s ambitious fundraising bike ride.
Charanjeet Singh, store manager at Tesco Wokingham Superstore, set himself the challenge of cycling 50 miles in aid of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
Setting off from the Wokingham store, Charanjeet visited several other Tesco outlets in the county, before returning to his own store.
He chose the Berkshire-based hospice because of the specialist work its staff do to help children and their families in the borough and surrounding counties.
Despite soaring temperatures, Charanjeet succeeded in his challenge and raised £2,615.
This total was helped by fundraising events held at stores across the area, including Wokingham Superstore, Bracknell Superstore, Bracknell Martins Heron Superstore and Slough Extra.
Charanjeet said: “I’m really grateful to everyone who helped and sponsored me in this challenge – friends, family, colleagues and customers.
“Every child deserves joy, comfort and the chance to make memories, no matter what challenges they face.
“The support Alexander Devine gives to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families is extraordinary.
“If my ride can help even one more family feel less alone during their difficult time, then every mile was more than worth it.”
Zoe Mitton, Community Fundraiser for the hospice, applauded Charanjeet’s efforts and thanked him for supporting the charity.
She said: “We are incredibly grateful to Charanjeet for taking on this challenge and raising vital funds for our children’s hospice service.
“Our service is free of charge for families, but it costs us £3.4million just to maintain our current level of care.
“We rely almost entirely on the kindness of people like Charanjeet to help us continue to be there for all the children and families locally who rely on our service.”
