Wokingham borough council is consulting on 16 proposed new locations for moving traffic enforcement across the borough.
These would be in addition to the 11 existing sites. Cameras may be moved between sites and used where they are most needed.
Moving traffic enforcement uses cameras to make sure drivers follow road rules, such as no entry signs, banned turns and yellow box junctions.
If drivers break these rules, they may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
The list of locations includes: Havelock Street/Barkham Road – No right turn, Oxford Road/Reading Road – No right turn, Milton Road – No entry, King Street Lane/Car park access – No right turn, King Street Lane/Car park access – No left turn, Emmbrook Road/Reading Road – No right turn, Plough Lane/London Road – No right turn, Eversley Road/Eversley Road – No right turn, Church Lane – 7.5t Weight limit, New Bath Road/Park View Drive North/Park View Drive South – Two no right turn sites, Broad Hinton – Bus gate, Loddon Bridge Road/Wokingham Road/Reading Road – Yellow box junction, Showcase Roundabout (North) – Ahead only, Showcase Roundabout (South) – Ahead only, and Seaford Road – School keep clear.
Moving traffic enforcement has been proven to be effective since the council gained powers to enforce these offences in 2023, with offences falling by 17.6% overall between April 2024 to March 2025 and April 2025 to March 2026.
At some locations, reductions have been particularly significant. For example, at the junction of Barkham Road, Station Road and Station Approach in Wokingham (where there is a ‘no right turn’), offences fell from 1,849 to just 432 over the same period.
On Murdoch Road, where drivers must follow a ‘keep left’ directional arrow, offences also reduced from 259 to 157.
It has used traffic monitoring and site visits to identify locations where these rules are not always being followed, and where enforcement could improve safety and keep traffic moving more smoothly.
