To celebrate the launch of its new and improved app, Reading Buses is offering free bus travel this Sunday.
The company, which runs several routes across the borough including the Lions, Leopards and Orange services, recently upgraded the app which allows customers to buy tickets on their phones.
And to celebrate, it is inviting everyone to give it a go for free.
The company said that this is its most generous offer ever and that everyone who has downloaded and registered the app – available on Google Play and Apple devices – will be sent the free ticket.
It is a SimplyNetwork ticket that will be valid only for Sunday, February 12 and will be valid for travel on all Reading Buses servcies in its normal network.
One of the big changes in this new app is the ability to track buses along routes, helping people predict when the buses will actually arrive at the required stop.
And, in response to customer feedback, favourite stops will be available to check and customers can also buy tickets to connect them from Wokingham borough to Reading.
Martijn Gilbert, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer, said: “After the success of the last upgrade to our app, we have been working hard behind the scenes to make things even better this time around.
“Whilst we know that thousands of people have downloaded the app, we want to see every bus user in our network using it – so we decided to offer the free-ride Sunday as an incentive for people to not only upgrade, but also encourage people without the app to download it and see how much better it can make their bus experience.
“We think customers will love the ability to track their bus on a map and then dive into the detail to see when it will arrive at their stop. The improved navigation will certainly help users to better find what feature they want.
“The introduction of the simplyNetwork tickets is another step towards giving customers what they have been asking for. We have even introduced a 30-day ticket option at the request of a small, but growing, number of customers.
“This is another step towards innovation and technology at Reading Buses. We will guarantee that the app will always have the best price for customers. For example, the introduction of the 30 day tickets is matching our online prices. We are currently working on expanding the mTicket options to include other ticket types too not currently available on the app so watch this space.
“And with most of our buses having free WiFi, customers don’t even need to use their own data to buy their tickets for the next journey,” Martijn added.
