England’s progression to the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro 2024 championships could be worth thousands of pounds to a local sports club.
Emmbrook Sports and Social Club, the home of Wokingham Town Football Club and Emmbrook and Bearwood Cricket Club, was packed for last Sunday’s 2-1 extra time victory over Slovakia.
The club is hoping the national side progresses all the way to the finals.
Mark Ashwell, president of Wokingham Town FC, told Wokingham Today: “Each match is worth several thousand pounds to us, in terms of food and beverage sales.
“We are showing every England match. I am hoping we can go all the way to the finals.”
England’s quarter final match versus Switzerland will be shown on Saturday, July 6, with a 5pm kick-off.
