Yuan Yang, the new Labour member of parliament for Earley and Woodley, asked her first question in the House of Commons last week.
Addressing Nick Thomas-Symonds, the minister for EU relations, she asked: “Many small businesses in my own constituency have expressed to me their strong need for smoother trading relationships with our closest neighbours.
“I welcome the fact that the Prime Minister held meetings last week with the Irish taoiseach and with the French president.
“Can the minister set out how he will build on those relationships to improve trade ties, and to boost British businesses trading with Europe.
The minister replied: “I’m grateful to my honourable friend for that question, and I welcome her to her place.
“As our nearest neighbours and as close allies, both relationships are of great importance to the UK, and to this government’s plan to reset our European relationships.
“We look forward to working closely with the Irish and French governments as we take forward our plans to improve the trading relationship to help boost businesses, jobs, and economic growth.
A spokesperson for Yuan told Wokingham Today: “Many local small business owners have raised their concerns about the need for smoother trading relationships with our neighbours.”
