JACK WOOD was among the wickets again for a Wokingham side which comfortable defeated Windsor to record a third win on the spin.
The Oaks are now seven games unbeaten and consolidated third spot in Division 1 of the Thames Valley Cricket League with this commanding victory by 10 wickets at Home Park.
And Wood was to more than play his part once again with the Durham University student picking up five wickets for the loss of just 37 runs.
This was to follow up the six-fer he celebrated the weekend before during the win over Marlow, and with the bowler in such scintillating form, sticking Windsor in to bat upon winning the toss proved to be a wise decision.
The home side currently prop up the rest in the standings and such a position did not look like improving on Saturday afternoon after they bundled out for just 91.
The session was to last only 29 overs, so it was a hard-earned total given they were ticking along at around three an over.
Wokingham, though, were in no mood to hang around and would surpass their target needing 10 fewer overs to rack up a sixth win of the season, which was secured without losing a single batsman.
Stuart Hayter’s charges will be looking to keep up the heat on leaders Stoke Green and second-placed Chesham when they welcome lowly Kew to Sadler’s End on Saturday (1pm).
Finchampstead Cricket Club
THE six game winning streak which saw Finchampstead surge to the top of the Division 1 table in the Home Counties League is over after the side was beaten by the clock.
But the in-form side stretched their unbeaten stand to seven fixtures after their clash with Banbury ended in a draw.
You cannot help but think Finches probably left the field frustrated having moved to within just a run of a tie and two for victory before the timed contest came to an end.
Because of this the home side picked up a share of just nine points from the fixture and have seen their lead cut to three points following Henley’s eight-wicket triumph over Burnham.
With an enviable attack boasting the likes of Jandre Coetzee and JJ Dewes, it came as no suprise Banbury, who started the day second in the standings, were asked to bat.
The aforementioned pair would take a wicket each, but the honours on this occasion belonged to Matt Carter.
The Berkshire star took 4-56 during a 19-over spell which also yielded five maidens, with his efforts helping to restrict the Oxfordshire side to a score of 195-9, of which 86 came from the bat of Lloyd Sabin.
Andrew House (30), Andy Rishton (26) and Greg Smith (24) got to work on the target, as did Suki Kang, who totted up 25 down at seven, but three of these would fall to the bowling of John West, who in casting his net on the innings would record figures of 5-82.
Because of this the reply began to falter and with the scoreboard reading 114-7, Finch were in trouble.
Coetzee, however, would arrive at the crease fresh from the 51 hit at Burnham the Saturdaby before and remained in good nick.
Striking up an unbeaten 43 from as many balls helped drag the side towards the winning post, only for he and Dewes (9no) to run out of time with the scoreboard reading an agonising 194-8.
The Memorial Ground side are on the road at High Wycombe this Saturday.
