IT’S THE show that all discerning toddlers use as part of their bedtime routine.
And it’s also a magical programme where anything can happen, from trans-dimensional trains running up trees to mouchatches being blown off by a sudden gust of wind.
It’s also home to the cleanest stones in the world and the naughtiest trousers as they keep disappearing. Oh, and a girl has a bed that follows her around while her possible boyfriend has great trouble keeping his tiddle attached … well, you had to be there.
To add to it all, the TV programme is narrated by one of the most influential living actors, Derek Jacobi.
It can only be In The Night Garden, and it’s about to embark on its first-ever tour. The Ninky Nonk will be bringing Upsy Daisy, Igglepiggle, Makka Pakka and the Pontipines to The Hexagon next April for a special family show packed with music and dancing.
In The Night Garden Live is a specially-written new story using full-size costumes and magical puppets with enchanting music and dancing.
This show premiered in 2010, and is a firm favourite with young pre-schoolers and their parents, but this is the first time that the dreamy Night Garden has come to Reading.
Oliver Seadon, the show’s Executive Producer, said: “When we made In the Night Garden Live we never imagined it would run for 10 years and that over a million visitors would come to see it.
“It’s incredibly exciting now to be making a brand-new show and taking it into theatres all over the country. This will be the first time that audiences get to see In the Night Garden Live in their local theatre.”
Director Will Tuckett said, “Children know these characters so well, much better than we ever might think. They see them as proper friends- when they appear on stage live they are seeing friends liberated from the television or tablet. They are there, waving at THEM.
“Taking your child to see them live on stage is an extraordinary experience – it’s a genuinely heartwarming and truly magical thing and makes me love my job as much as I do.”
The show will be at The Hexagon on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, 2019. For more details, or to book tickets, call the Reading Arts box office on 0118 960 6060 or book online at www.readingarts.com
