Binfield manager Roger Herridge says that his side ‘didn’t get what they deserved’ after two late goals from Fairford Town stunned them to a late defeat.
The Moles fell to just their third league loss of the season after a late missed penalty from Sean Moore allowed Fairford to snatch an even later winner to deny Binfield taking any points.
“It was very disappointing, on paper it was going to be a competitive game they’re a good side and have made really good signings from higher levels,” said Herridge.
“It was a game we were confident of winning and it was a good game for the neutral but sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve.
“I think we deserved to win and i don’t think anyone watching would argue with that. The first 20 minutes we looked the better side, we created a lot of chances but ultimately we were punished for not taking them.
“I would have been quite happy to have seen the game out 1-0. We were just 10 mins away from doing that but they got themselves back in the game with the equaliser.
“Sean doesn’t miss many penalties- one minute we were thinking were going to celebrate a hard earned three points and then two minutes later you find yourself being beat 2-1. The emotions were running very high at that moment.”
Despite the defeat, Herridge praised the quality of his squad and believes they will learn from the lessons of last weekend’s defeat.
“I would say that arguably this is the best squad that Binfield have ever had and it’s up to me to make sure that equates to getting results.
“You get a good idea of where you are after 10 games, we’ve played 11 now and have only had one blip, we lost to a late goal to Westfields and to Fairford, a side who are expected to do really well but we were by far the better side.
“Leagues aren’t won in November. It means we’ve got to make sure that we get back to winning ways as quickly as we can and puts some pressure on us to get results. Seven days is a long time in football, things can change very quickly.
“We would like to be higher in the table but we have games in hand so we are at the right end of the table even though on performances we think we should be a bit higher. Its our duty to turn those performances into points.
“It’s a bit frustrating to have no fixture this weekend, you want to be playing at least once a week, if not twice, you want to keep the momentum going but if you’re not playing games regularly then it can be difficult to keep the squad happy.”
Binfield now look ahead to their next fixture where they host Uckfield Town in the FA Vase on Saturday, November 30.
“It’s a real plus to get drawn at home, although we don’t know too much about them (Uckfield),” continued Herridge.
“We know they’re not doing great in their league but they look tough to beat. They did reasonably well in this competition last year.
“We expect them to be organised and we know they won’t come to our place and roll over easily- the last round against Redhill proved that.
“It will be a competitive fixture but we know if we get our game right, then we have the quality in the squad and the rest will take care of itself. Unfortunately it didn’t on Saturday but there are lessons that we will learn from that.”
