A major supermarket chain has revealed that it is about to issue a planning application within six weeks for the former Odeon cinema site in Bracknell town centre.
And a senior Bracknell councillor has welcomed the prospect of the German giant coming to the site in Skimped Hill Lane.
LIDL launched a consultation today, on its proposed new store on the footprint of the Odeon Cinema promising 40 new jobs on the footprint of the Odeon Cinema, Hollywood Bowl and Pizza Hut.
Cllr Paul Bidwell, (Labour) is the spokesperson for Economy and Regeneration on Bracknell Forest Council.
He said: “Lidl coming to Bracknell is hugely welcome news, giving residents even more shopping choices.
“Bracknell is a great place to do business and, with some of the highest shopping footfall in the region, it’s a no brainer that Lidl wants to get in on the action.
“I look forward to welcoming them to our thriving town.”
LIDL has revealed that it expects to employ 40 people on the site, and pay them a minimum of £13.45 per hour rising to £14.45 with length of service.
The store would have two electric vehicle charging bays.
The supermarket is hoping to issue a planning application within June or July and that planning application to be decided later this year so that the new store could open in 2027 or 2028.
