A 49-year-old man from Wokingham has been jailed for eight years after he slashed a victim across the face with a knife.
Dennis Clift of Ashridge Road, Wokingham, was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict at Reading Crown Court in November and was sentenced last Monday.
The incident, which took place on April 4 2021, saw Clift involved in a verbal exchange with the victim, who he did not know, on Davis Road, Hurst, Wokingham,
Clift leant into the victim’s car window and slashed him across the face with a knife.
The victim required medical treatment, while Clift was arrested on the same day and then charged on September 6 2021.
He has been sentenced to eight years for inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
“There can be absolutely no excuse whatsoever for Clift’s violent actions, and I am pleased that the courts have reflected the severity of this offence with a lengthy prison sentence.
“I would like to pay tribute to, and thank the victim, for his patience while this case was investigated. It took some time to bring Clift to court for this offence, but I hope that this sentence will help to provide some reassurance to our communities that we will not tolerate such violence.
“I also hope that the victim can put this incident behind him and move on with his life in the knowledge that his attacker will be in prison for several years.”
