RESIDENTS at Austen House Care Home in Lower Earley enjoyed their very first trip in the home’s new minibus, heading out to Dinton Pastures Country Park for a day of sunshine, nature, and community spirit.
The new minibus, specially adapted for comfort and accessibility, will allow residents to enjoy more outings in the months ahead—something they’ve been eagerly anticipating.
For this inaugural trip, the group was treated to a relaxing afternoon by the lake, taking in the fresh air, watching wildlife, and enjoying a cup of tea in the park’s café.
“It was such a lovely day,” said one resident.
“The sun was shining, the scenery was beautiful, and it felt wonderful to be out together enjoying life.”

The visit to Dinton Pastures is just the first of many planned adventures.
With the new minibus, Austen House aims to make regular trips to local attractions, community events, and favourite spots for residents.
General Manager of the Lower Earley home, Katherine Mahoney, said: “Being able to get out and about is such an important part of life here at Austen House.
“The new minibus allows us to make those moments happen more often, safely and comfortably.
“It’s not just about the destination—it’s about the shared laughter, conversation, and memories along the way.”
